Jess’s Story
Hi, I'm Jess.
I've been working in healthcare since I was a teenager, and I'm 37 years old now. I'm a registered nurse and have been caring for COVID patients for the past 4 years. In November 2022, I noticed a lump in my left breast and told my doctor. She checked and said it was just another cyst due to my hypothyroidism.
In November 2023, I went to urgent care because the lump felt bigger and asked for a mammogram. That's when I was diagnosed with angiosarcoma of my left breast. Last week, I had a complete mastectomy.
I've dedicated 19 years to healthcare, and right now, I feel like it has failed me. Once I'm well enough, I plan to go back to school to become an oncology nurse navigator.
Currently, I can't work and am waiting to learn about my treatment plan.
