Andra’s Story

Hello! My name is Andra (pronounced like Sandra without the “s”). I’m 32 and was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in June 2024. I recently went through about six months of chemotherapy and then had a single mastectomy. I thought I was nearing the end of my treatments, but after they did the biopsy of the removed tumor, it looks like I will be doing at least six more months of chemotherapy and then maybe radiation and other immunotherapies.

I unfortunately also had a bad reaction to the immunotherapy after my surgery, and my immune system started to attack my lungs. This has been very difficult to figure out and has pushed all the treatments back even further. Because of this, I have recently spent 30 collective days in the hospital, had six ER visits, five hospital admissions, five different medical departments work on my case, and three ambulance rides. They’re not even certain if they have found the cause of the mystery fevers I keep getting.

I had really thought I would have been recovering by now, but that’s not how it’s working out.

-Andra
