Ellie’s Story

My name is Elizabeth, but I go by Ellie, and I was diagnosed with Stage 2A ovarian cancer—specifically low-grade serous carcinoma. I received this diagnosis after the birth of my second child, when I began to notice that my postpartum experience was different from what I had anticipated. I sought medical advice, and on Christmas Day, an MRI revealed suspicious findings that pointed to cancer. Although devastated, I remained hopeful.

On Jan. 10, I underwent surgery, hoping the mass would be benign, but unfortunately, it was cancerous. The moment I heard those words—cancer at 25? Me?—it felt surreal, as though my entire world was crumbling beneath me. It was a living nightmare.

I was presented with the option to participate in a clinical trial, which I accepted, and I began six rounds of chemotherapy on Feb. 21, 2024. On June 4, I rang the bell, symbolizing the completion of my treatment. However, in July, I experienced a life-threatening case of sepsis, and for a moment, I feared for my life. That was one of the most terrifying experiences I’ve ever faced.

Throughout this journey, I’ve come to understand that cancer is a dark tunnel, but the light at the end of that tunnel is the unwavering support from friends and family. Although cancer is a devastating diagnosis, it has made me stronger and has deepened my relationships with those I hold dear. I am a phoenix rising from the ashes, shedding my old life to embrace a new one.

I am grateful to be in good health today, and I am currently NED (no evidence of disease). As I continue my recovery, I have become very active in the cancer community and have taken on a strong advocacy role for women’s health. I am passionate about raising awareness, providing support and promoting the importance of early detection and prevention.
